True American Pride - Real Things to Celebrate About This Nation (#14)
THE ORIGINAL (AND ONLY) PRIDE FLAG
On Flag Day, we honor the symbol that reminds us that we are one Nation under God, united in our pursuit of liberty and justice for all. By honoring our flag, we pay due respect to the patriots and heroes who have laid down their lives in defense of the liberty it represents. As we raise the flag, we stand and salute or place our hands on our hearts, and we recall the fundamental truths upon which this Nation was founded: that we are all created equal and that just government derives its power from the people.
I am blessed to have shared my birthday with the Star Spangled Banner and the U.S. Army for 78 years now. Again, on Flag Day, I am deeply grateful to live under the red, white, and blue, and all for which it stands. (former President Donald J. Trump)
Today's 14th post of Real Things to Be Proud of in America is a simple one. Our national flag, "The Star-Spangled Banner", "Old Glory", "The Red, White, and Blue", etc. is a universally recognized symbol that for 247 years has served to unite the citizens of this country.
Its colors: red symbolizes hardiness and valor; white symbolizes purity and innocence; and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice - reveal that which Americans strive to be the representatives of. It has always been a call to as Abraham Lincoln called it, "...the better angels of our nature".
The 13 stripes stand for the 13 original colonies that courageously began the fight for our independence from Great Britain and were the seed beds of a new kind of nation and people. The 50 stars in the blue canton represent the current 50 states of our Republic: each equal to the other; separate, yet part of a union greater than its individual parts.
No other flag can claim that honor. No other flag should be accorded that kind of attention or respect. I appreciate Mr. Trump's reminder of this today. God Bless this country.
